Varicose Veins

Veins are blood vessels that help transport deoxygenated blood to the heart and lungs from the body. When these veins become larger or become twisted they are known as varicose veins. Veins have valves that help prevent the backflow of blood, when these valves become incompetent this causes blood to start pooling and allows backflow of the blood. The most common area for varicose veins is in the superficial veins of the legs, these veins may take on a blue tone. Although varicose veins are usually not signs of serious disease they may be a sign of a more serious condition and should also be looked at by your family physician.

How PCS can help

  • Custom compression stockings may treat mild varicose veins, which improve circulation by applying a corrective amount of continuous pressure on the veins.
  • Losing excess weight is a significant step in alleviating pressure on the veins in order to treat and prevent varicose veins. We offer comprehensive weight loss programs, providing nutritional counselling, effective clinical conditioning exercise programs and ongoing support from a qualified medical expert.
  • Our medical professionals can also educate you on simple yet crucial lifestyle changes which can be enormously effective in treatment and prevention, such as avoiding sun exposure and limiting salt intake.
